Crawley Borough Council has elected it’s first Conservative Mayor. Councillor Sally Blake was voted into office on Friday 26 th May 2006. She has chosen the Golden Lion Children’s Trust as her charity for the year. A former British Caledonian Airways worker, she was involved in the charity from it’s early days in the 1970’s. The Trust’s main activities have always been to take disabled and disadvantaged children on outings both initially by plane but now mostly by coach. They have also arranged holidays for children who would otherwise not be able to go away on trips.

Now the Trust would like to recreate it’s first outing by taking disabled children and their carers to Jersey by plane for the day, and Councillor Blake hopes to raise as much money as possible towards that project.

“It’s a really worthwhile cause and I hope that local people will support me” she said.
